City overview
Overview
Baton Rouge is located in Louisiana. Drone operations are governed by federal FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 107) and may be subject to state and local ordinances.
State Regulations & Statutes
Louisiana has enacted drone-specific criminal statutes. La. R.S. § 14:283.1 prohibits the unauthorized use of a drone to conduct surveillance of a person or private property without consent — a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months imprisonment and/or a $500 fine. La. R.S. § 14:63 covers criminal trespass and applies to drone intrusions over private property. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) prohibit drones in state parks and wildlife management areas without authorization. Commercial operators need FAA Part 107; recreational flyers must register and follow TRUST requirements.

Weather Considerations
Baton Rouge has a humid subtropical climate similar to New Orleans. Summers (June–September) are hot and very humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and heat index over 100°F. Hurricane season (June–November) requires vigilance; Baton Rouge is inland but major hurricanes significantly impact the area. Winters are mild with occasional fog along the Mississippi. Check NWS New Orleans/Baton Rouge (weather.gov/lix).
Seasonal Tips
BEST: November–February — mild temperatures, lowest thunderstorm frequency, clear and dry days common. AVOID: June–September — daily afternoon convective activity, extreme heat/humidity, hurricane risk. Spring (March–May) is flyable but watch for severe weather lines. Check LSU football schedule for game-day TFRs at Tiger Stadium (September–January); Saints TFRs do not typically affect Baton Rouge.
